Wallbarn distributes a range of strong, flexible thermally bonded nonwoven geotextile fabrics manufactured in either polypropylene or polyethylene for use as separation, filtration, protection, drainage and soil reinforcement layers.

The geotextile layer provides an excellent separation layer for land drainage. Since it allows the flow of water through the soil without any clogging, the soil will not become saturated, thereby improving its strength and stability.

A number of different grades, densities and strengths are available, depending on the application. We can also manufacture a recycled material. We supply a very large range of roll sizes, from 1 metre wide for small areas or restricted access; up to 6 metres wide for very large areas inlcuding landfills and roads. The makeup of the fabric is uniform throughout the roll, so no weak spots will be present in the layer.

Our geotextile fabrics can be used in a variety of different applications including reinforcement for roads and railways; protection and drainage for tunnels and landfills; erosion control for highway banks and watercourses; and protection layers for foundations and roofing.

They are also increasingly being used as separation and filtration layers in the fast growing green roof system.

The build up of our extensive green roof system is as follows:-

  • The structural deck is laid, fully waterproofed and protected.
  • A geotextile fabric is looose laid on top of the membrane.
  • Wallbarn Protecto-drain perforated cupped drainage sheeting is laid on top with the cups facing upwards.
  • Another layer if geotextile fabric is laid on top of the drainage sheeting, covered immediately with the soil and growing medium; planted up with low level vegetation.
Rainfall passes through the substrate where a certain amount will be absorbed by the vegetation. The water then filters through the top layer of geotextile and drops into the 20mm cups of the Protecto-drain. Excess water will then pass through the perforations, through the second layer of geotextile and into the roof outlet.

Where periods without rain occur, the water which has been collected in the cups can be drawn back up though the top layer of geotextile and back into the soil substrate.
This will the plant life to be nurished to a certain degree.

They are also commonly used as separation and filtration layers within structural waterproofing systems.

They are frequently used between insulation boards and paving slabs on balconies and inverted roof systems. As well as filtering solid particles away from the membrane, they also protect it from damage.

Wallbarn distributes a whole range of thickness and densities, from 100gsm to 800gsm. All fabrics are manufactured to the highest standards and are fully tested to ISO 9001/2000 technical requirements. Please contact us for full technical details.

Technical data on all our fabrics can be provided with appropriate test scores. Please contact us with your requirements and we would be happy to recommend the appropriate material.
