HEAVY DUTY SUPPORT PEDESTALS FOR TIMBER DECKING – GREATER HEIGHT AND WEIGHT CAPACITY AVAILABLE

TD MEGAPADS are available for supporting timber decking as well as paving slabs.

The specially designed TD headpieces click into the centre of the head of the Megapads to house a timber joist securely in the same way as our TD adjustable range does. The distance between the lugs is 60mm which will house a 2 inch joist.

TD Megapad

They are extremely tough and durable. Each support pad (at 35mm and above) able to tolerate a weight of 800 kg and tolerate temperatures as low as -40°Celcius.

As with the Megapads for paving, the TD Megapads are available in sizes from 22mm up to 1020mm.

TD MEGAPADS can withstand a load of 800kg per unit (Mini TD Megapads – click here for more details – tolerate 400kg in weight each). This means when using them for timber decking a larger span between each unit can be allowed. With less TD MEGAPAD units being required, a significant cost saving can be achieved.

TD Megapads

They will lift the joist frame of the deck to prevent standing water affecting the timber over time. The higher clearances from the deck mean that drainage outlets and other services can be covered over without risk of direct contact with the timber.

The TD Megapads are ideal for areas where heavy traffic is anticipated on the decking, such as public walkways, jetties and restaurant areas.

TD Megapads

The extended range of adjustment (100mm for the larger sizes) means that a lower amount of different sized units are required. This makes the estimation process an easier task. Because the larger units can tolerate higher loads, fewer units need to be installed per square metre, leading to cost savings.

ASSEMBLY (115mm and higher)

Megapads are made up of multiple sections, which lock together to form one, sturdy unit.

TD MegapadsAt 115mm and above, Megapads are increased in height by adding a 100mm high EXTENSION TOWER.

These towers click into the baseplate and to each other (if required) so multiple towers can be added to the Megapad to increase the height up to 1020mm. Please click here to see a diagram of components for the Megapads at each height.

LOCKING THE HEIGHT

At 35mm and above, Megapads are designed to be “locked” into place once the correct height has been achieved with the ingeniously designed double-locking- thread mechanism. The headpiece, the extension towers, baseplate connect together by screwing into each other in the usual manner (green arrows).

TD Megapads

As the extension tower, adjustable thread section and headpiece are all screwed into place, a locking ring section (red arrows) is counter threaded at two points, up to the headpiece and at the bottom of the stem, linking either to the baseplate or an extension collar.

A special “Easykey” tool is used to help act as a wrench to ensure the locking nut is tightly screwed into place. The grooves in the handle fit around bars moulded onto the locking ring to give extra leverage when tightening them.

Once these locking rings are secured in place, the pedestals cannot change in height or start to unwind. The “Easykey” is again used to release the locking ring. It is pressed into a small hole to release a spring within the unit, allowing the threads to be unlocked and untwisted, should installers wish to change the height at a later date.

MINI TD MEGAPADS

TD MegapadsThe height range starts at 22-30mm, the MINI TD MEGAPAD – this smaller unit has a lower weight tolerance than the larger units at 400kg and is 150mm in diameter at both the head and the baseplate.
Even at this very low height there is scope to adjust the height, meaning very accurate levels are possible and the same type of support sysyem is available across the entire decking area.

Because the amount of adjustable thread is so small – only 8mm in the case of the smaller pad – it is sometimes difficult for applicators to get their fingers into the space to alter the height.

The “EasyKey” multi-function tool which can be used as a spanner / wrench. It grips around the vertical bars and can be used to move the thread up and down.

SLOPE CORRECTORS

The base plates come with clip fixings to allow slope correctors to be fitted. These wedge shaped levellers help prevent tilting of the units when paced on the built-to-falls deck. The Megapad remains completely vertical with its centre of gravity going directly through the middle of the unit. This keeps the slabs on top completely stable.

TD Megapads

They are available in 3 sizes:

  • 1% or (0.57 °)
  • 2% (1.11 °)
  • 3% (1.71 ° )

Multiple slope correctors can be fitted to increase the angle. Wallbarn recommends a maximum deck fall of 10% when using the pedestal system.

TD PLUS MEGAPAD

TD MegapadsA new style of headpiece is available for the TD Megapad, where installers wish to fix the timber joist to the pad unit. This may be desired if users wish to ensure there is no movement of the timber, or perhaps if a much larger joist is placed onto the pad.

The option is available and the TD PLUS Megapad is priced at the same level (at the equivalent height) and contains the same technical strength properties of the TD Megapad.
