Roof Vents

Roof VentsWallbarn’s excellent and reliable range of roof vents may also be known as aerators. They have been designed for the specific purpose of allowing structures to breathe by aerating the concrete slab which is based beneath.

It is a proven fact that all forms of concrete will retain a small element of moisture within its mass after the construction process is complete. Because of this, it is vitally important that once a roof has been waterproofed, an outlet is provided to allow moisture to escape so that the retained moisture does not bulge out of the top of the structure and cause the waterproof seal to bubble, blister or even burst. Our range of roof vents has all been designed to effectively draw this moisture away from the concrete slab.

We have roof vents manufactured in both TPE and PVC for different waterproofing membranes.

Vents & aerators in TPE

Wallbarn’s TPE roof vents, also called aerators, are designed to help aerate the concrete slab beneath, and help the structure to breath.

PVC Roof Vents

Wallbarn also supplies vents in PVC, for use with compatible synthetic waterproofing membranes. They are designed to aerate the concrete and help the structure to breath.

As with the TPE roof vents for bituminous membranes, PVC decks will also require sufficient aeration to avoid vapour build-up and potential blistering of the waterproofing membrane.

The vent is designed to draw this moisture away from the concrete slab. It is placed onto the bare concrete beneath the waterproofing membrane and insulation

Special ESTRAER® aerator hood - to fit TPE and PVC roof vents

Wallbarn can now offer an ingenious new aerator device to fit onto standard roof vents.

The ESTRAER® aerator hood is a cone-shaped device designed to increase the amount of moisture sucked out of the concrete structure, drawing a far greater amount of vapour than the traditional cap. It can be used with both TPE and PVC vents shafts, and it tough and durable, but very easy to fit.

SPECIAL DOUBLE AERATOR – for insulated roofs

A new concept is the double aerator, comprising two roof vents, for areas where both the concrete deck and the insulation need to be aerated and ventilated. Here a “special” 100mm high vent is placed onto the bare concrete beneath the waterproofing, and beneath the insulation; and another much higher “ideal” aerator is placed on top of the insulation. All concrete will retain an element of moisture within its mass after the construction process, and it is important that once the roof is waterproofed, this moisture has a way to escape the system, otherwise there is a risk that this retained moisture will build up and possibly bulge out of the top of the structure and cause the waterproof seal to bubble, blister or even burst.
