Hardwood Timber decking on roof decks and balconies has become much more popular in recent years. By using Wallbarn Hardwood Timber Paving Slabs, installers can combine the simplicity and ease of use offered by slabs, with the aesthetics of natural timber.
Made from ethically sourced Brazilian Walnut, from sustainable forests, they come in a green/brown to dark olive brown colour, with a fine texture. They are sealed with hard, clear lacquer, made from natural oils.
They measure 500 x 500mm in size, either 30mm or 38mm thick.
The timber is extremely tough (twice as hard as oak) and pre drilling with power tools is required to drive nails and screws into it. It has a very long life span as it is treated with the natural oil lacquer before being dried very slowly, so will not absorb water or rot.
Laid in the same way as regular concrete paving slabs, they are suspended on Wallbarn’s range of support pads, allowing rainwater to drain underneath and between the slabs and into an appropriate outlet.
This means they can be taken up and replaced without disrupting the whole area, should the deck beneath need to be inspected. No fixings to the deck are required with this method, the weight of the slabs holding down even inverted roof systems adequately.
The timber can be cut into shapes to fit around details and corners in a similar way to concrete slabs, which help to achieve attractive finishes and edges to terraces.
They are quick and easy to install, hardwearing and extremely attractive. They offer a real alternative to concrete flags or fixed timber decking, achieving the best of both worlds.
