The tiles are not screwed, nailed or bonded to 2015-09-28_0824_001the surface in any way, so installation requires minimal surface preparation and saves cost and time. What is Eco-Friendly Decking?

For decking to be accurately described as being ‘eco-friendly’ it must be produced in a way that does not negatively impact the environment.

This means that the decking tiles must be made or constructed from a sustainable source, with the production process using only the minimum of energy.

Introducing a Brand New Decking Material

This has led us to ETHERNO: the new decking material 100% made of bamboo. It is a semi-manufactured product and takes on an entirely different ETHERNOlook and performance.

Bamboo grows much faster than any tree and is among the most prolific resources on earth. This makes ETHERNO a CE and FSC environmental certificated product. Thanks to a specialized “deep carbonization” process, our natural ETHERNO exceeds in terms of strength, stability and durability.

This decking material is ultra-luxurious, with this deep brown colour and very tight grain. In direct contrast to many assumptions, this finish does not look anything like the common appearance of products made from bamboo.

How Does The Process Work?

The thermo process works by steaming the wood, ensuring that any moisture in the fibres turns to steam resulting in the timber becoming more resistant to moisture absorption.

This thermo bamboo becomes really hard and scratch-resistant, it is harder than ipe (one of the hardest tropical hardwoods) on the Janka hardness test scale for timber.

TD Support Pads Project – Honour Lea Road

We have recently been involved in the completion of a project called Honour Lea Road – near the Olympic Stadium featuring the installation of TD support pads, which were used in the construction of a timber decking area on a new build project for Wates Construction.

The images below highlight how the roof of the building was designed to have a large terrace to take advantage of the view.

How Were The TD Supports Implemented?

The TD supports were used to raise the timber structures  off the deck to protect the waterproofing membrane from damage. There are also TD Mobile supports in view in some of the pictures.

The client wanted to hold the edge timber joist / batten very securely, so want to screw the support pad into that joist to hold everything together.

More Information About TD Support Pads

These support pads are similar to the ASP range, but manufactured with a set of joist peg fittings placed either 40mm or 60mm apart. We also have a new headpiece with an extra wide joist holder 90mm apart. This has been designed to hold a larger timber joist.

Installation of TD Megapads, Marine Wharf in Surrey Quays

A recent project at Marine Wharf in Surrey Quays offered the perfect example of just how fast and effective the installation of TD Megapads can be.

Project Specifications

The specifications for this project were supplied from the architect using the AUTOCAD images we have on our website and the information we publish on the NBS Plus software provided by RIBA.

For successful completion of the project, it became apparent that a product capable of holding very high weights, which the Megapads do (800kg per unit), was required to reach up to the door thresholds of the residential units.

The high clearances mean none of the timber is left in standing water. As this deck is treated softwood, if it was left in standing water permanently it would rot much faster, this design extends the life of the timber.

The timber decking was laid out onto the concreted and waterproofed areas so that everything, the terraces and the walkways around the central fountain landscaping area, was on the same level.

Significantly Reduced Installation Time

The installation team from Elite Landscapes, stated that they were able to install this decking 5 times faster than with the method they were trying previously.
