Continuing from our last blog, (please click here to return), we offer two further tips designed to ensure that you choose the right decking material for the right location.
Installation Systems
Traditional: Screws/Nails + Clips
No matter if it is face fastened or hidden fastened… inclement weather can be a major enemy of any kind of screw that with time loses its grip! If you are buying decking boards that have to be installed like that just be prepared to face a lot of structural maintenance issues.
New generation: iDecking Revolution, zero screws, easy install and remove!
iDecking Revolution is the company born to innovate in the field of decking/cladding installation systems and materials! The company patented a whole new generation of decking installation systems, selling successfully worldwide!
Maintenance
As far as decking maintenance is concerned we need to divide the chapter in two: 1. Aesthetic Maintenance & 2. Structural Maintenance.
– Aesthetic Maintenance is strictly linked to the kind of material you choose your boards made of. Each one has its own reaction to inclement weather. Here we go to personal tastes since there are architects who prefer time patina on the boards and people who like to keep them new and clean. In the second case, DURO composite is the best choice. Let’s always remember that wood is great too, but we would strongly suggest laying a couple of protectors coats per season in order to maintain the wood at its best.
– Structural Maintenance is strictly linked to the installation system you choose. Utilising either of the iDecking systems (EasyClick / EasyChange) bring this kind of maintenance down to almost zero since you are not dealing with screws to fix the board on the ground!
Conclusions
If you are looking for the right solution to last in time without many troubles we feel like suggesting what follows:
The Best Solution: Hard Woods (Teak/IPE) or DURO COMPOSITE as materials to be matched with iDecking Revolution EasyClick or EasyChange
Woods To Be Avoided: Softwoods installed with screws (both face fastening or hidden fasteners)
Did you know that simply by choosing the most appropriate material for your decking area, you may be able to significantly reduce the amount of maintenance required to keep them in the best possible condition?
With this little guide, we’d like to give you some points to reflect on if you’re in the process of choosing the right outdoor flooring for your deck area.
Just by following the 3 simple points outlined below, you, your family and your guests will be able to enjoy the benefits of a long-lasting, durable, high-quality deck.

Choosing The Right Material
The very first thing is to decide is whether you would like to install a decking area made from real wood or a composite material?
Wood Decking
Did you know that wood carries on living even after it gets cut and milled into decking boards? It can also react with some types of water! Should you wish to choose a wood board for your decking it is absolutely essential that you choose a stable and seasoned one. IPE and Teak are two of the best choices. With that kind of wood, you’ll just have to care about aesthetic maintenance (due to oxidation), but the structures stay still!!! What you really have to AVOID are softwoods like Fir and Pine for such job.
Composite Decking
The best composite around is called DURO, the new material made of RICE HUSK (skin of the rice grain) and PVC (not recycled). RICE HUSK, a by-product that would be otherwise burnt and create CO2 is given a much nobler second life into decking boards with incredible structural performances. It has to be compared to a noble wood other than common composites. Rice grows into water, and the skin of the rice protects the grain till the moment it’s ready to blossom. In fact is the only current micro surface known to absorb.
The following video shook at this clip that shows DURO as a swimming pool floor:
The surface is very resistant and doesn’t look fake. It is a stainable/paintable composite which means you have the option of protecting it with a transparent colour or give it the colour you desire by applying a water-based paint .
Not only does the DURO range from iDecking offer these qualities, but they are also incredibly easy to install thanks to REVOLUTIONARY new installation systems which have been patented to install it. We will explore these further in our next blog.
While a traditional roof is designed to keep water off and heat away, green roof technology is designed to do exactly the opposite. A green roof, or eco-roof, is intended to hold a certain amount of water. Why? Because water is needed to support the plant life growing on the top layer. A green roof is true to its name.
The roof has always been a topic of much debate. It is in constant contact with the sun. This means that it absorbs quite a bit of heat and energy. More energy is needed to keep the home or building cool beneath. They believe the eco-roof is the solution they have been searching for for years.
What Is A Green Roof?
A green roof is green because it has vegetation growing. The green roof technology is designed in several layers to get the best use of all available space. It works for homes and buildings alike. It was actually developed as far back as the ’60s but has only recently evolved to become so popular, affordable, and efficient.
The first layer of the eco-roof lays against the existing structure of the roof. It is there to seal the building and prevent any water from leaking inside. It’s either synthetic material or a metal layer. The next layer is a drainage layer which allows some degree of water to properly escape the roof.
The next layer is the filter and protection layer. It is used to ensure that none of the plant life growing on the layer above penetrates the bottom membrane, thus causing a leak. Finally, the top layer is added, which is where the plants themselves are grown.
Introducing the Wallbarn M-TRAY®
The major advantage to the M-TRAY® system is the “clip-on” nature of the installation. The fuss, time and skill required to install the correct amount of substrate and the correct drainage layers one-by-one, to the correct level and in the correct order is removed as M-TRAY® comes as a complete kit. All the measuring and propagating has been carried out by Wallbarn. All installers need to do is click the trays together.
M-TRAY® modules are so easy to handle. One module can be carried easily by one person and none of the contents will move or spill out during transport and installation. This leads to less mess and less damage to the plants.
Unlike with roll-out systems, if there are problems with the deck beneath and inspection is ever required, an individual M-TRAY® module or a small section can easily be lifted out without the minimum of disruption to the deck. With loose lay systems, tonnes of loose aggregate has to be dug out to access the deck, causing a risk of further damage to the structure beneath and destruction of the plants, leading to material replacement and labour costs.

Building a deck is not the easiest task in the world! It still requires master deck builders to take care of that… There’s always some brave handyman who, after some research, loves the do it yourself world and we believe that nothing is impossible. Today we want to compare the classic hidden fasteners system with iDecking’s EasyClick innovative installation system.
Now let’s go through some useful detail about the two systems and try to understand what are the benefits of a fast and safe installation.
Traditional HIDDEN FASTENERS Decking System
Definitely a cool way to get the screws out of sight, but they’re gonna be still there! But make sure to have A LOT OF TIME to dedicate to this job, you need to be focused, concentrated and… What if you need to remove a board once the deck is finished? Perhaps at the centre of your deck? NIGHTMARE !!!!! All you have to do is “just and simply” start from the nearest perimeter, take out all the boards till you reach the one you desire to remove, replace it, and re-install everything! Some pirates use to pull the board out and then face fasten it… (forget about that!).
The real problem is given by screws… they won’t hold forever! And despite being a time-waster thing, it forces you to structural maintenance every single season (this depends on the kind of wood/material and screws you use). When the screw fails, the board lifts up, this is not just bad looking, is even dangerous especially if you have kids… just to give you a few examples:
iDecking’s EASYCLICK innovative decking System
EasyClick is the innovative system which allows you to install iDecking Revolution boards simply using your feet. No need to use any nails, screws, drills, spacers or “obsolete” clips. The EasyClick system helps ensure a quick and simple trouble-free installation. EasyClick is essentially comprised of an understructure “rail system” which comes with pre-installed and pre-spaced patented EasyClick nylon clips. Our patented grooved decking boards are then simply pressed and locked in place. The system can be used both for Wood and for Composites such as DURO and ETHERNO (Carbonised Bamboo).
What are the highlights of EasyClick system?
Decking installation up to 5 times faster than traditional deck building
Boards require Zero screws, nails or other fasteners
Drastic reduction of installation errors
“Effortless” installation
Doesn’t cause water stagnation
Increased structural integrity and strength
Self-aligning system
CONCLUSIONS
Time is Precious, Time is Priceless… Time is money. Make sure to consider not wasting both your time and money when in need to plan your deck or cladding area.
