Wallbarn also supplies sustainable material in the form of RECYCLED POLYESTER MATERIAL. These fabrics are available in a variety of densities and come either as a white material or a multicoloured fabric.
They represent significant cost savings and as they are recycled materials they help with sustainability criteria including BREEAM ratings, for example.
Both fabrics have a lower tensile strength than virgin materials, but this reflects the fact that they are recycled existing fibres. The raw material comes from many different sources and will have been used for a variety of different applications.
This means that the thermal bonding process will not bond the fibres as tightly and strongly together as with virgin fibre.
However, because the raw material is recycled, environmental sustainability benefits, as well as cost savings, can be achieved.
Please click here for full technical data. The white fabric (code PEI) is slightly stronger than the multicoloured fabric (code PEC) due to differences in raw material and production technique.
RECYCLED POLYESTER FOR GREEN ROOFING
Our recycled polyester fabric is proving very popular with the designers and applicators of sustainable construction projects particularly within the green roof and bio-diverse roof systems in conjunction with our other sustainable products on offer.
It acts as a separation and filtration layer between drainage/reservoir membranes and soil substrate in green roof installations. Please see our green roof page for more information on our green roofs.
Although they do not have high tensile strength, the recycled fabrics offer excellent separation and filtration qualities. This is not a problem for green roofs as there will be no ground movement or heave. A certain amount of moisture can be held between the fibres as they are not so tightly bonded as with virgin fibre material, and the material has more of a soft, cushioning characteristic which makes it ideal for green roofs.
The fabric is not bonded to the surface beneath; it is loose laid and covered with the aggregate which keeps in place.
POLYESTER FABRICS WITH GLASS YARN REINFORCEMENT
These fabrics are used as carrying and strengthening layers within manufactured waterproofing membranes and can be produced in different densities, roll sizes and colours, depending on the client’s specification.
We can offer virgin fibre or recycled polyester materials with yarns of different gauges, compound matting made from recycled fibre, or Glass Tissue Fibre in varying grades.
