    Securing paving at perimeter edges

Suspended paving systems often require perimeter slabs to be cut or partially supported. Without a dedicated edge solution, the paving can tip, shift, or become unstable over time. Border Shield is designed to eliminate this risk by providing continuous support beneath perimeter tiles while maintaining open joints and drainage.

Border Shield sits beneath the perimeter paving and connects directly onto Mega Balance adjustable pedestal. An integrated adjustable support bears the weight of the slab edge, preventing rotation or movement at exposed edges. The profile runs continuously along the perimeter and can be cut to suit the layout of the project. Height adjustment remains possible after installation, allowing fine tuning during final levelling or future maintenance.

Border Shield is designed for use with the Wallbarn Mega Balance adjustable pedestal range. The integrated safety support accommodates build-ups of up to 470 mm.

    How Border Shield works

Border Shield sections interlock with each other to form a continuous perimeter edge around exposed areas of raised paving and can be cut to exact size required. The system is compatible with the Wallbarn Mega Balance pedestal range and simply clicks onto the head of each pedestal, creating a clean and consistent perimeter support line.

Before installation, the integrated side height support should be snapped off by hand and used once pedestals have been set to correct height. With the Border Shield attached, pedestal heights can still be adjusted as normal using the Mega Balance key, allowing the perimeter to be set perfectly level alongside the main paving area.

Once final levels are achieved, the side height support is trimmed to suit the slab position and secured by hand. This locks off the edge support and creates a more stable perimeter, particularly important where paving slabs or tiles are cut or partially supported at edges.

Paving discs are then placed onto the Border Shield to provide consistent spacing and drainage gaps between slabs. The dividing lugs maintain open joints, and the discs can be easily trimmed with scissors where required. This makes the system especially effective for securing smaller perimeter slabs while maintaining drainage, ventilation, and access below the paving.

Border Shield is particularly effective where perimeter tiles are cut to fit the layout. In diagonal or stretcher bond patterns, or where small infill pieces are required, the reduced tile size can mean there is insufficient weight for the slab or tile to self-support on the pedestal head alone. Border Shield provides edge restraint and support to these smaller sections, preventing movement or tipping. Where required, a suitable adhesive can also be used to further secure cut perimeter tiles, creating a stable and clean edge.

    Designed for long-term external performance

Manufactured from high-strength virgin polypropylene, Border Shield offers excellent resistance to UV exposure, moisture, and harsh weather conditions. The material is resistant to acidic and alkaline substances and maintains stable mechanical performance over time in external environments.
