Polypropylene Geotextile Fabrics

Geotextile fabrics for drainage, filtration and soil stabilisation

Wallbarn distributes a wide variety of top quality nonwoven geotextile fabrics in different densities, roll sizes and type to suit any application.

These quality fabrics are available in polypropylene, polyester or compound mixtures. We also supply fleeces reinforced with glass yarns and Glass Fibre Tissue.

Water can pass through the fibres at different speeds, depending on the density of the fleece. The soil and other particles will remain in place, avoiding waterlogging and subsidence; giving a dryer, stronger and more stable ground base for construction.

Our non-woven, high tensile fabrics are made from the best quality raw materials and manufactured to the highest standards, which provide uniform and consistent strength throughout the roll, so no weak spots will appear.

Our Geotextile fabrics have been used successfully in the following applications:-

PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR THE FULL RANGE OF MATERIALS

  • Filtration and separation for landfills and reservoirs
  • Protection layers beneath pondliner membranes
  • Soil stabilistation beneath building construction
  • Soil / hardcore stabilistation in road and rail construction
  • Stabilistation and erosion control in highway banks, cuttings and watercourses
  • Filtration and protection for tunnels and bridges
  • Roof gardens and green roofs
  • Filtration and separation layers in inverted waterproofing systems

Wallbarn can supply geotextile fabrics in a large variety of roll sizes, from 1 metre wide for small or restricted access areas (particularly roofs); up to 6 metre wide Jumbo rolls for very large projects.
These large rolls make installation faster and easier, since less individual rolls mean fewer joints to seal and less overlap at the joints is required, leading to less material wastage. Fewer joints also lead to a stronger overall system.
Strong enough to tolerate vehicular traffic, and with special types that can withstand high temperatures, Wallbarn can supply geotextiles fabrics which can tolerate direct contact with asphalt.

WATERPROOFING SYSTEMS

Another popular application for these fabrics is for roofing and inverted waterproofing systems, being an ideal separation, filtration and protection layer beneath paving slabs or other coverings.
Higher density geotextile fabrics are also used as a temporary protection layer on top of waterproofing membranes to prevent them being damaged during the construction process.

It can be rolled out and taken up as a temporary protection, or fixed permanently.

GREEN ROOFS

They are also used as filtration layers within green roof systems, laid above and below the drainage sheeting. One layer will be laid onto the waterproofing membrane / insulation to act as a protection and separation layer, and also to help with the direction of the run-off of the water. The Protecto-drain 20P is laid onto this layer, and then another geotextile fabric is laid onto this drainage board. This fabric allows water to run through it into the cups, but prevents particles of soil substrate passing through. The system helps to slow down the rainwater run-off, putting less pressure on the outlet pipes.

THE RANGE:

STANDARD POLYPROPYLENE GEOTEXTILE

The technical data for our standard range of geotextile fabrics can be seen by clicking here.

We can supply fleece material from 90gsm up to 1,500gsm in roll sizes up to 6 metres wide, depending on the requirement of the client.

HIGH STRENGTH GEOTEXTILES

We also supply fabrics with a special needle-punch technology which is extremely strong. By achieving the same performance but with lower material content, less waste and emissions are generated for the building scheme and the environment. Details are found here.

DOUBLE CALENDERED GEOTEXTILE FABRICS

Where applicators wish to drill or screw through the geotextile layer, standard fabrics are not suitable as they will fur and curl up when attempting to pass the screw through.

For applications such as mechanically fixed PVC membranes and other installations where the fleece needs to be fixed to a substrate, Wallbarn supplies a fabric which is calendered on both sides, giving a harder, flatter interface.

Technical details can be found here and please contact Wallbarn for more details and case studies for the product.

RECYCLED POLYESTER GEOTEXTILES

Wallbarn also supplies a sustainable material in the form of RECYCLED POLYESTER MATERIAL. These are available as a white material and a multicoloured fabric. The white fabric is slightly stronger than the multicoloured fabric.

Both fabrics have a lower tensile strength than virgin materials, but this reflects the fact that they are recycled existing fibres. They represent significant cost savings and as they are recycled materials they help with sustainability criteria including BREEAM ratings, for example.

Our recycled polyester fabric is proving very popular with the designers and applicators of sustainable construction projects particularly within green roof and bio-diverse roof systems in conjunction with our other sustainable products on offer.

POLYESTER FABRICS WITH GLASS YARN

These fabrics are used as carrying and strengthening layers within manufactured waterproofing membranes, and can be produced in different densities, roll sizes and colours, depending on the client’s specification.
We can offer virgin fibre or recycled polyester materials with yarns of different gauges, compound matting made form recycled fibre, or Glass Tissue Fibre in varying grades.
