WALLBARN HAS A RANGE OF HEAVY DUTY ADJUSTABLE PEDESTALS SUITABLE FOR HIGHER CLEARANCES & GREATER LOADS

MegapadsDue to the success of our ASP Adjustable Pedestal range, Wallbarn has developed the MEGAPAD, for higher and lower clearances off the deck.

Megapads feature significant benefits over other pedestals. These include:

  • Very heavy duty
  • Made from high quality virgin fibre polypropylene
  • Large weight distribution
  • Huge height range
  • Lockable to eliminate unwinding
  • Reversible for edges and corner
  • Fixing holes in base
  • Slope correctors for more stable installation
  • Super-low temperature tolerance

Designed to hold suspended paving slabs, these pedestals / support pads have a massive range of height. We can supply fully lockable, telescopically adjustable support pads from 22mm right up to 1020mm.

This includes our special MINI MEGAPADS, available from 22mm. Please click here to see more details.

They are also extremely tough and strong, with each support pad (at 35mm and above) able to tolerate a weight of 800 kg and tolerate temperatures as low as -40°Celsius.

Megapads

These units are be used where very large cavities are required. For very large paving areas built-to-falls where the levels change significantly across the deck, Megapads are ideal. Even when highly suspended, the slabs are perfectly secure and stable. The injection moulded polypropylene units will hold even very heavy stones and slabs in place without risk of toppling.

Megapads

Often on projects details such as steps, gullies and voids; or existing services such as pipework, air conditioning ducts; mean a very large cavity between paving and deck is required.

Megapads

Megapads are extremely strong and secure. They can hold up massive slabs and extremely heavy stone such as granite. They can tolerate very heavy traffic so are ideal for public walkways.

Megapads

Their superior strength and flexibility mean that installers can adjust the height of the pedestal whilst the slab is in situ. This avoids having to repeatedly lift the slab to adjust the levels, a huge advantage when using very large or very heavy slabs.

MEGAPADS ARE REVERSIBLE

At 115mm high and above, the lug headpiece is removable. When paving up to the edges, up to balustrades and railings, or around corners; the very edge of the slab needs to be properly supported to prevent that slab tipping if weight is placed onto the lip.

Megapads

The support pad can be turned upside down and the lug head unit placed into what was the base plate.

Since the base plate is 200mm in diameter, when turned upside down it, the new headpiece is 200mm in diameter, wider than the new base plate. Therefore, the paving slab sits securely onto the wider headpiece and does not overhang the supporting columns. This means the slabs can be butted up against the wall without risk of tipping.

ASSEMBLY (115mm and higher)

Megapads are made up of multiple sections, which lock together to form one, sturdy unit.

MegapadsAt 115mm and above, Megapads are increased in height by adding a 100mm high EXTENSION TOWER.

These towers click into the baseplate and to each other (if required) so multiple towers can be added to the Megapad to increase the height up to 1020mm. Please click here to see a diagram of components for the Megapads at each height.

LOCKING THE HEIGHT

At 35mm and above, Megapads are designed to be “locked” into place once the correct height has been achieved with the ingeniously designed double-locking- thread mechanism. The headpiece, the extension towers, baseplate connect together by screwing into each other in the usual manner (green arrows).

As the extension tower, adjustable thread section and headpiece are all screwed into place, a locking ring section (red arrows) is counter threaded at two points, up to the headpiece and at the bottom of the stem, linking either to the baseplate or an extension collar.

A special “Easykey” tool is used to help act as a wrench to ensure the locking nut is tightly screwed into place. The grooves in the handle fit around bars moulded onto the locking ring to give extra leverage when tightening them.

Once these locking rings are secured in place, the pedestals cannot change in height or start to unwind. The “Easykey” is again used to release the locking ring. It is pressed into a small hole to release a spring within the unit, allowing the threads to be unlocked and untwisted, should installers wish to change the height at a later date.

MINI MEGAPADS

MINI MEGAPADS are our special smaller height support pads suitable for installing paving slabs at very tight height thresholds but where height adjustment is still required.

Megapads

In terms of technical performance they have very similar traits to the larger Megapad range. However, the weight tolerance is lower at 400kg.

Using MINI MEGAPADS avoids the need to have to spend a large amount of time and effort placing multiple shims under fixed height supports. This is important since the lowest height thresholds are most commonly found around areas such as doorways and the structure-end of terraces, where pedestrian traffic is most likely to be at its heaviest and thus a level, stable, secure set of paving or decking is most critical.

MegapadsBecause the amount of adjustable thread is so small – only 8mm in the case of the smaller pad – it is sometimes difficult for applicators to get their fingers into the space to alter the height.

The “EasyKey” multi-function tool which can be used as a spanner / wrench. It grips around the vertical bars and can be used to move the thread up and down.

SHOCK ABSORBING SHIMS

For additional acoustic properties, or if more grip is needed, rubber shock absorbing shims can be installed onto the headpiece of Megapads. The shim will hook over the positioning lugs so that it sits securely in place.

SLOPE CORRECTORS

The base plates come with clip fixings to allow slope correctors to be fitted. These wedge shaped levellers help prevent tilting of the units when paced on the built-to-falls deck. The Megapad remains completely vertical with its centre of gravity going directly through the middle of the unit. This keeps the slabs on top completely stable.

SLOPE CORRECTORS

They are available in 3 sizes:

  • 1% or (0.57 °)
  • 2% (1.11 °)
  • 3% (1.71 ° )

Multiple slope correctors can be fitted to increase the angle. Wallbarn recommends a maximum deck fall of 10% when using the pedestal system.
