Levelling shims are used to alter the height of the paving pad marginally or to change the angle that the slab is resting on the pad.
They are loosely fitted and held in place by the positioning lugs.
They will alter the level by very small amounts in order to get the paving correct, where the thickness of the actual paving slab alters slightly from one flag to another; because of irregularities in the deck surface beneath;
Levelling shims have been designed to fit on top of all fixed height support pads and will make up those small differences in the level. To avoid one of the slabs rocking, applicators can simply hang a levelling shim onto the support pad to make up the difference.
All shims can be snapped into quarters or halves, where only one corner needs extra support.
They can be used as a whole unit where the height needs to be increased at a particular area, but can also be broken into halves and quarters if just one side of the pad needs lifting (in circumstances where the two abutting slabs might be different thicknesses, for example). The shims will overhang the 9mm rubber pad slightly, but this is no issue.
For use with 14mm & 17mm plastic pads:
Multiple shims can be stacked onto a support pad, but care should be taken that the lug does not become engulfed as this will affect the paving guide and compromise straightness. There needs to be enough of the lug showing for the slab to butt up to.
For use with ASP pedestals:
Levelling shims can also be used with ASP adjustable pedestals. If one of the four slabs mounted onto the ASP headpiece is a slightly different thickness, once laid one side can be unlevel and will need shimming up in one particular area to avoid the slab rocking. The shim can simply be snapped into segments and used on one quadrant.
3mm SHIMS FOR USE WITH DECKING PEDESTALS
The 3mm thick shim has a slightly different shape to the 1mm and 2mm shims. Their shape allows for them to be used with TD support pads.

Shock Absorbing Shims
These circular shims are styled and shaped in the same design as the standard plastic levelling shim but are made from TPE instead of plastic to reduce sound and vibration from traffic passing to the roof deck below.
The shims are 2.5mm thick and are suitable for both paving and timber decking support pads and pedestals.
They act as an effective vibration or sound control layer. They deaden the sound of pedestrian traffic over slabs, tiles or timber decking.
This can be of enormous benefit on projects where terraces or walkways are constructed on top of residential properties and can drastically improve the experience of residents.
THEY ARE SUITABLE FOR BOTH SUSPENDED PAVING AND TIMBER DECKING INSTALLATIONS
The shock absorbing shims are loose fitted so no fixings or ties are needed. They are simply laid onto the pad / pedestal and hooked over the positioning lugs on the headpiece of the pad / pedestal. Installation is fast and easy.
The shims will also give extra protection to the slabs or tiles themselves, acting as a cushion between the slab and the plastic support pad / pedestal, reducing the risk of damage caused by vibration over time.
Used in conjunction with the 5mm PVC disc underneath the pad, a significant amount of vibration and noise reduction can be achieved.
When paving, they can be used with rubber support pads, plastic fixed height support- pads, adjustable paving support pedestals, extended height adjustable support pedestals and Megapads & TD Megapads – extended height pedestals.
